Faulty Manufacturing

I've been meaning to post about how amazing my sister is, but this weekend changed the tone of the post. She's not just amazing, she's tough as nails.

I got a call on Friday from her asking if I could come help her this weekend. She ruptured a disk and has to have back surgery sometime this week. She's had a bad back for as long as I can remember and her faulty manufacturing finally gave out. Her husband has been taking care of everyone this week and he needed some help. I hopped in the car and came to the rescue. I spent the weekend playing Sequence with her between bouts of crying and one drug induced haze after another.
(Because I love her so much I decided not to take any pictures, but felt the need to re-enact her favorite position so you can get an idea of what she's going through.)

I never thought I would describe Laurie as tough. Determined, yes. Strong willed, HELL YES! Tough, not so much. I can say with certainty now that she is one tough cookie. Her boys have been so excited about Christmas and she and her hubby haven't been able to put up any decorations so she made sure while I was there that we put up the decorations. And I LOVE to decorate for Christmas almost as much as I like to go to the dentist. Actually I may like the dentist more because I've gotten some good drugs there and Laurie was being stingy with hers. For those of you who know Laurie, you know just a tree wouldn't suffice. Between short painful naps and those few hours where she wasn't scaring the boys with her moaning she came downstairs, sat in her chair on her heating pad and made sure we decorated the whole house so her boys could have a good Christmas. She is one Crazy, Determined, Tough Mom.

I was originally going to post about her blog, Tip Junkie. I'm amazed at what she's done. She took it from a blog about fun tips to a promoting phenomenon! She is having a Mom-Preneur Shop-A-Thon with products all made by Moms. She gets hundreds of emails from people all over wanting her to promote their product or tip idea. I really think there's nothing she can't do.

If you haven't done your Christmas shopping stop by Tip Junkie's Shop-A-Thon and check out all the amazing things there are. You won't be disappointed!

Laurie, in the words of Jason Mraz you're "an island of reality in an ocean of diarrhea!"

You my friend are a good sister. She is lucky to have you. Maybe you can teach her the words to my favorite Christmas carol, Oh Holy Crap.

I emailed her to see what I can do this week, but haven't heard back, so I think I'll call today. I imagine I'll be talking to you if she's in a drug induced haze. Be thinking of how to put me to work!

I'm glad she's got a sister like you. (My sis would point and laugh.) Apparently, I suck as a friend, as I didn't even know until she posted on her blog. If she spills the beans to you about what she needs help with, share the wealth - she certainly isn't asking for any on this end.

Love the post--and your honesty about your addiction to illegal drugs. I feel like I know you so much more now. I love Laurie and I'm really sad that she's in pain like that!! You are a hero to her. I hurt my back pretty badly a year ago and had to have my mom come out to rescue me and help. Thank goodness Laurie knew she could call someone to help!!

I know it's terrible that my close friends find out how bad my situation is on my sister's blog. So sorry RO & Chanda. I've just been trying to cope day to day. I just sent you an e-mail.

Lisa - you nailed it! Honestly, I did expect to see some terrible pictures of me all hunched over with the crying ugly face. However, your reinactment is funnier and not as pathetic as reality.

Lisa - Thank you for giving my boys a Christmas! Thank you and Billy for sacrificing your conjugal visit. And thank you for being YOU! You made me laugh even though it hurt and kept me occupied to trying to kick your ass at Sequence. You're an amazing sister. Once I heal - anything you need is yours! I owe you big time.

I was just about to ask how Laurie was doing. I saw Billy flying solo at church and he filled me in. When is the surgery scheduled for and will she feel better right afterwards or will it take time to heal up still?

Soooo nice of you not to post a pic of her in "the pose"! LOL! I totally feel for her. Wish her luck on that surgery. (For several years I was wishing someone would just weld my vertebrae together and get me out of my misery. - I got a divorce instead. Worked great.)

And, um, put in a good word for my tip (snowflake tutorial) - I need my 15 minutes of fame. LOL!

One of these days you need to post about your own life!

sisters are the best...especially when they make fun of you...hey, somebody has to!

I hope she feels better soon, nothing is worse than being "down" at Christmas!

What a great sister you are! I love the re-enactment! You are too funny!

I have to ditto you on the Christmas decorating. I think I would rather have en enema in public then to decorate.......Yes! It is true. I hope Laurie is feeling back to normal soon.

Hi this is a little random, but my husband and I are moving to texas and I found your house on your sisters blog, is it still for sale? And what is the distance from where your house is to downtown Austin?
